The philosophy of happiness in a weekend apartment in St. Petersburg

Russian designer Yulia Babintseva (yuhome design studio) has created a bright, cozy and elegant and respectful interior. The 75.5 m2 apartment offers views of St. This space is designed to exude a special atmosphere of relaxation and comfort – reflecting the fact that the clients, a married couple, plan to visit the apartment only occasionally, treating it as his five-star hotel.

The first request from the owners was a weekend home with enough space. Besides, the designer was given carche blanche. Unlike the main residence, where functionality often happens first, this hotel-inspired concept is adopted with bold, non-artistic, and creative solutions. This is seen both in individual items and in the overall concept.

An eclectic interior, which allows the designer to fully express himself without being confined to a particular style. This creative freedom gave Yulia the opportunity to tell a narrative – a happy life story.
The idea started with one piece: A decorative panel with a crow. Like other elements of the design, the stort was deliberately designed – the bird symbolized a happy family life, which deeply resonated with customers.

Similar to the image of a bright stork, black and white colors appear on the inside, while the calm, dusty beige background serves as the main color for the overall package of the home.

As you pass through the apartment, the narrative continues to unfold with thoughtful details that fill the entire picture. The nature theme is growing gradually, with new interpretations from different rooms. For example, above the bath, the first arrangement of dried flowers testifies to the natural habitat of Storks, which live near water with similar vegetation. The bedroom features a dry fresco painted with soft, drifting clouds, while the living room features a wooden table with a support leg, evoking the high growth of reeds. With these things, Yulia has not only created a cozy and beautiful place but has also bought in the context of the owners’ philosophy and values.

Despite the emphasis on art, Yulia always kept practical considerations in mind. The dried flower arrangement, for example, was designed for easy removal, allowing for effortless cleaning and restoration – important details for a home that has been used many times.

Since the apartment was a new construction, the design team worked with a clean slate, thus avoiding the dirty work of possible demolition. With all the windows facing the same direction and the balcony with a panoramic view, the good design allows the group to combine the space between the living room and the bedroom.

The public areas feature an open layout, with the living room and kitchen in full view from the entrance. Transparent partitions separate these spaces, providing the flexibility to bring them together or separate them as needed. This thoughtful sound allows owners to expand the space for entertaining or to create a sense of intimacy when cooking.

Throughout the decorating process, Yulia navigated various challenges. For example, the last batch of Italian Powned-toned tiles was ordered for the bathroom, but when it arrived, the color showed that it was wrong. Instead of compromising on design, the tiles are expertly painted on site to match the intended shade. Similarly, the color of the ceiling was adjusted to ensure perfect harmony with the newly installed tiles.

Completed in just a year, the project exceeded the owners’ expectations. When they saw the finished space, the clients confirmed that it really felt like a high-end hotel – a testament to the Studio’s dedication to functionality, simplicity, and beauty. Most importantly, every detail was carefully matched to the lifestyle of the owners, turning their vision into a living thing.
