Wearing holiday sweaters to a party (while still being comfortable)

[ad_1]
This year I have two non-girly non-holiday parties to attend – like other grown women in IRL, stylish homes! I don’t think I need to dress up for anything more than a holiday party since I lived in LA, and I miss it (we held 2-3 holiday parties, but it’s all in the house of such children in the “bad sweats and realm” which is sweet in its own way). So, I get to dress up a bit, but I still need to enjoy myself while I’m sitting, and I still live in Portland (which means normal bathing – no physical dressing required). So in my effort to be comfortable, casual, but beautiful in a more cocktail attire way, I put together a few looks with “Holiday-Adude” clothes. Kaitlin wanted to shoot this with flash, since I was at the party, which sounded good to me, so you’re about to see me see a fake beer in the middle of a half-laugh… I made some choices, people!

Sweat | Skirt | Tires
This first one was Brian’s favorite – I haven’t felt this level of passion in a while (probably because I wear sweatshirts and barrel pants). Bringing Martha to life in the 80s with a Prepy Sweater and bows (with leather showing through). After that I paired it with a modest mini skirt that is perfectly tailored in a plaid that really feels like me. I think it’s my attempt to do a “Kalph Lauren Christmas,” but in a way that suits my style more. I bought the skirt and tons from Aritzia and I really like the burgundy with green/blue plaid. I bought shoes at thrift stores like 10 years ago, sadly, I can’t put them together. Oh, and I’m wearing a large sweater (the only size left at my local store), which fits perfectly as it’s worn.

Sweat | Skirt | Boots
This sweater is the softest, and obviously I like that the blue can be worn from winter. Imple’s perfect style gives it a “holiday,” for sure. But one is comfortable, soft and warm. 10/10. I paired it with a sezane style skirt and wool that I’ve had for a few years (I have both). My concern here is if we have to remove our shoes (common in Oregon homes). This outfit doesn’t work without boots. Not sure what the current “House Party” protocol is for shoes

Sweat | Shorts
Another “maintenance at the top, a little scandalous” see. This sleeve sleeve knit has a really nice cut – very wide at the bottom but short, with a nice fit (big puffy sleeves + too long for my volume). I’ve had the pants for a while, and they’re really questionable – super tight and flare-y at the bottom, so the style is key here to not look super cheesy.

I think this dress could use a pop of burgundy – maybe a bow in my hair or shoes? But I felt great in it, the pants are splirgy (but on sale now!) and very flattering.

Cape: Skirt | Tires
Here, with great cunning! A new company called Alice Walk has been approached to send a few items without obligation. Usually, I lose weight, I don’t want a lot of things I might not wear. But this Kali is so beautiful that I wanted to see it in person – and it’s so well made and beautiful. It comes in solid solid colors, but of course, I was drawn to this pattern. Definitely Spurgy (think Frank & Eleen Vibes), but for someone with an office job who wants to impress, I think this is fun to wear around town.

This is my first look at a slip bag (I know this trend has been around for a while, but this one just happened to me). It is a light blue with a black thread, and with tires underneath, it doesn’t show the bumps (this was my fear with these silk/satin dressing gowns -you can show everything if it’s done right). I picked this up at Nordstrom, I didn’t see how expensive it was, but I know I’ll wear it as it’s easy to knit sweaters for a nice/elegant/sophisticated look.

Cardigan | Skirt | Tires
I was so comfortable in this dress and felt pulled together in a way I usually don’t. The Cardigan (also from Alice Walk) is very pretty, soft and well made, with pretty horn buttons. I really liked this tonal look, with the burgundy tires giving it an edge.

Pearl Necklace | A gold necklace
I think it’s a party, I might add some more structured jewelry, but this feels like a solid house party outfit that checks all the boxes while being comfortable.

Cardigan | Shirt (similar) | Leather skirt | Tires
A gorgeous burgundy cardigan that says holiday, without being bright red. I added a pop of black and white stripes, leather, and black tires. BTW, I’m on a hair journey and trying not to get highlights (it’s been a year since I last did it), so I’ve been doing touchups recently. I like to be a little lighter in color, but these pictures make me want to get just a few pops of color on my face…

Sweat | Skirt | Tires | Belt | Boots
Another holiday close to Sweager (Fair Isle) is very sweet and easy to wear. I paired it with a J skirt. I’m wearing XS, so it’s perfect. But it’s super soft and lightweight – so easy to layer over or under.
Let me know if you would like some casual/comfortable Nye looks. We always go to a family house party, but I usually wear something flashy because I’m extra like that (while I’m still crazy). xx
